I just got back from a trip to Beijing.
My friend from England is there studying Chinese.
I expected before going to Beijing, perhaps a dirty smoggy dangerous city of some kind,
but it was absolutely amazing!
The place was so beautiful, and HUGE - great big wide open roads and scenic lakes and walks (especially The Summer Palace), and the food was delicious!
They have a huge variety of cuisines - and all so cheap!
Apparently
the city had changed a lot in a short time,
because of all the Olympic preparations,
like the air was cleaner and new roads had been built
and things generally had been made a lot more beautiful...
so I guess we went at a really good time:-)

My friend showed us around each day and took us to the places
that some tourists would usually miss out on, as they're not as well known,
or hard to get to if you don't speak Chinese...
for example...
when we went to the Great Wall of China,
we hired a small minivan and drove to a quieter part of the wall,
where there were hardly any tourists at all,
and there was a place where you could zip-line back down to the ground from the Great Wall itself!
It was amazing!
I definitely recommend it as a place to visit...
there is so much to offer, so many interesting things to see and do, and it's all really cheap! :-)♪☆
